This flashy 1899 Morgan dollar is an excellent, well-struck example from this semi key-date mintage. The devices are well-defined with sharp high-point detail throughout and the fields are velvety smooth. The surfaces are clean with a stunning original mint luster and a clear white shine. NGC has certified this choice, near-gem specimen with a MS64 grade, and for good reason!
Back in 1899, the Philadelphia Mint produced a mere 330,000 silver dollars. This exceptionally low mintage figure may explain why very few of these Morgans can be found in high Mint State condition today. Gem and near-gem specimens are quite scarce and premium examples like the one being offered here are coveted finds.
Collectors Universe currently lists a conservative value of $475.00 for the 1899-P Morgan Dollar graded CHOICE MS64.
